Meet Félix Bertrand

Félix Bertrand was born on July 4th, 2002. He lives in Saint-André-Avellin in the Outaouais region. It’s around there that he started to ski at three years old and also where he discovered his passion for the sport. Even at the very beginning, moguls and jibbing on the side of the tracks were what he enjoyed most.

At age seven, Félix joins the Mont Saint-Sauveur mogul team. At nine, he takes part in his first provincial competition, participating in the 14 years and younger category. At ten years old, he qualifies for the provincial circuit full-time and even goes on to win the gold medal in duels. Despite such success, he continued to compete in the regional circuit, winning 15 consecutive gold medals from 2011 to 2015.

In 2014, during the Sochi Winter Olympics, Félix is the subject of a Radio-Canada (CBC) reporting: “Podium 2022” because he was considered an Olympic hopeful for the 2022 Games.During the 2014-15 season, Félix wins the regional championship for a fourth time as well as the provincial championship. His achievements allowed him to be selected for the Canadian Junior Championships at Silver Star station, British Columbia. There he won the bronze medal in the 12 year single, U-14 category.

In 2015-2016, Félix won five gold medals and one silver medal after competing in six events on the provincial circuit. He also won the provincial Grand Prix for a second year in a row. He’s crowned Canadian champion in both single and duel events during the Beaver Valley, Ontario championships. The greatest achievement of his young career! In mai 2016, Félix was selected to be part of the Québec acrobatic ski team.

What’s your objective for the season?

To be selected for the Québec Performance team.

Do you have any rituals for the starting line or any lucky charms?

Before every race, I snap my skis on the ground and I knock my poles together.

Your favorite course on the circuit? And the one for fun with friends?

On the circuit, I really love the Apex, British Columbia course. And Mont Saint-Sauveur remains the place I go to have fun with all my former teammates.

What does your early season training program look like? Does it differ from last year’s?

My program consists of 30 days on the water ramps during summer. It also includes workouts on the trampoline, sessions with the team’s kinesiologist as well as additional training in the gym to increase my muscular mass. I round up the whole program with running and bicycling for the cardio.

What’s the best memory you have from competing on the circuit?

My victory in duels during the last Canadian Junior Championships and my victory at the March 2017 Relay as well as my first participation in the Canadian Senior Championship that was held at Val St-Côme.

Why have you accepted to associate yourself with the Oberson brand?

Because of the royal treatment I’ve received at every visit since I was a little kid! As soon as I enter the store, I feel right at home. I’ve developed a great relationship with the store personnel and my equipment is always perfectly set. The entire staff has my complete trust!

What are your favorites at Oberson for the 2017-2018 season?

As it goes every year, I fell in love with the Oakley goggles and the Full Tilt boots. I can also add to that the Icebreaker products which I discovered last year.
